Feast Day #1: St. Josephine Bakhita (February 8th)

Josephine gave her life to God as a Canossian sister. During her time as a religious sister, she assisted the community with cooking, sewing, embroidery, and welcoming visitors. She was well-loved by the local children and citizens who affectionately called her “Mother Moretta” (Black Mother). St. Josephine had a beautiful heart for God and served many in her community. She reminds us all to “be good, love the Lord, [and] pray for those who do not know Him.”

St. Josephine Bakhita Freedom Chain

Build a freedom chain with your family and break the chains of modern slavery with St. Josephine’s help.

Feast Day #2: Feast of the Chair of St. Peter (February 22nd)

The feast of the Chair of St. Peter commemorates Christ choosing Peter to be the first pope of our Church. The pope is the “perpetual and visible source and foundation of the unity both of the bishops and of the whole company of the faithful” (CCC 882). He is the Vicar (“representative”) of Christ on earth, and today we celebrate the first pope and the line of unbroken succession.

Chair of St. Peter Mitre crafts

Celebrate the Chair of St. Peter with your very own Bishop’s Mitre. A mitre is the traditional bishop’s headdress worn by the pope, bishops, and abbots. It is normally white and simple, but ceremonial mitres can be elaborate.
