The richness I feel each Advent is feeling EVEN MORE RICH this year…
...and that shocked me! (How is it feeling for you?)
Maybe it feels that way to me because the increased chaos of life has made me more grateful for the refreshing regularity and reliability of our traditions.
Maybe it’s because the seeds we planted in our Domestic Church are sprouting.
Maybe it’s because I am not so busy trying to learn the traditions I want to honor and am therefore more able to celebrate them now. (Thanks in large part to the crates!)
Whatever the reason, all I know is that the lights on St. Lucy’s crown seem to be glowing more brightly than before!
If you received our Advent Crate or Liturgical Art Prints, make sure to display your print!
Go ahead and meditate on whatever “light in the darkness” metaphors come to mind. St. Lucy is, after all, the patron saint of the blind. (wink, wink)
And to do our best to emulate her work with persecuted Christians, we will be making crowns and star hats from our crate, baking some yummy sweet buns, and processing around our house singing Advent carols.
Since St. Lucy’s feast day falls on a Sunday this year (Gaudete Sunday no less, reminding us to “rejoice” as the Lord is near), we might even be able to visit some nearby family, friends, or homeless shelters and share our yummy treats. (For some of us, this might mean a distanced drop-off, but a worthy endeavor nonetheless.)
Please also print off our free St. Lucy coloring page here. Little ones might love using these as “cards” to go along with the sweet buns or as something to keep hands busy during storytime.
Whatever the case and whatever your situation, we hope you have a very merry Feast of St. Lucy/Guadete Sunday.
St. Lucy, pray for us!
