Feast Day #1: Feast of St. Katharine Drexel (March 3rd)

St. Katharine was well-educated and traveled the world, but most importantly, her family served the poor daily, prayed fervently, and visited women in need. Katharine’s love for God and the poor inspired her to serve the African Americans and Native Americans in her community. She became a religious sister and dedicated her life and fortune to serving these communities. She built a system of Black Catholic schools in 13 states and 50 Native American missions in 16 states. For 64 years, Mother Katharine courageously fought against inhumane treatment and unjust suffering. She had a love for the Eucharist and a deep desire for the unity of all peoples.

Feast Day #2: Feast of St. Patrick (March 17th)

St. Patrick was one amazing man. But get this—he wasn’t Irish! Patrick was born in Britain to a Romanized family. At age 16, Irish raiders stole Patrick from his family’s home. He spent six years in slavery in Ireland before he escaped and returned to his family. After his escape, Patrick had a dream that he should return to Ireland the place of his captivity, and spread the Word of God far and wide. Can you imagine sharing Jesus with people who enslaved and hurt you? That is just what Patrick did! When he brought Christianity to Ireland, St. Patrick used nature to lead the Irish to God. Legends state that he used the shamrock to preach about the Holy Trinity. This shows us that nature and our own imagination can play an important role in leading us to God.
